Leveraging supply chain networks for sustainability beyond corporate boundaries: Explorative structural network analysis

The ability of companies to achieve systemic sustainability goals is influenced by the structure larger supply chain network in which they reside. However, managing throughout multi-tiered global networks and complying with new law initiatives has proven be a great challenge for many firms. This article investigates node- (firm) network-level structural characteristics their implications sustainability. empirical study first explores patterns 5458 then focuses on sub-set 604 associated automotive industry. following four archetypes were identified: impassive networks, environmentally focused socially orchestrated networks. further specifies strategy options lead firms, suppliers, regulators enhancing each archetype. most sustainable firms are typically central, not necessarily ones closest customers. Regulators should target central ripple effect.
